Hangar has invited Charlotte Abramow to present her first solo exhibition in Belgium, Volle Petrol.

Highlighting the influence of surrealism on her vision, the works on display address themes that are dear to the artist, such as the issues related to the representation of female bodies, from criticism of their extreme sexualisation to their reappropriation. While questioning the norms that confine bodies, Charlotte Abramow’s work is an ode to women as plural and free subjects.

Taking the body as a starting point, the exhibition presents both iconic and more recent images, drawn from the artist’s decade-long career. Absurdity and self-mockery run though Charlotte Abramow’s creations, like a guiding thread to her Belgian identity.
