Robin Lopvet
About Robin Lopvet
Graduated from ESAL (École Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine) and ENSP (École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie, Arles), Robin Lopvet is a multimedia visual artist who explores themes of language play, the economy of retrieval, parody, and playfulness. Having practiced digital retouching for over twenty years, he is part of the post-photographic wave that embraces asserted, visible retouching, reintroducing a pictorial gesture into digital practices. Robin Lopvet regularly exhibits in France and internationally (United States, Netherlands, Japan, China, Spain, Poland, and Russia) while also working professionally in image retouching.
Robin Lopvet’s Photographic Approach
Robin Lopvet’s photographic approach is rooted in transformation. He believes that nothing is lost or created—everything is simply reassembled. His work revolves around collage, parody, and repurposing existing materials, reflecting a playful yet critical take on the visual world.
Lopvet is a multimedia artist exploring language, recycling, and digital manipulation. His images blend humor, absurdity, and art history, embracing visible digital retouching as a deliberate artistic gesture. Based in Arles, he exhibits internationally while also working professionally in image editing.
For Lopvet, creativity is a hands-on process. He sees the digital age as a playground where technical mastery is secondary—anyone with an internet connection can reshape the world. In this sense, his practice is both a critique and celebration of contemporary visual culture.
Robin Lopvet’s Exhibitions
Robin Lopvet’s recent exhibitions include a solo show titled Entre Deux Mondes at the Centre Photographique de Lectoure in France, and Living Certosa, an outdoor exhibition at the Milan Design Week. His work New New York was recently part of AImagine - Photography and Generative Images at Hangar Photo Art Center in 2025. This project consists of photographs recreated using period techniques such as collodion and silver printing, presented in a display inspired by the Armory Show—the groundbreaking international modern art exhibition held in New York in 1913. This approach offers a free and anachronistic reimagining of the history of photography in New York. In this project, Robin Lopvet takes on the role of an archaeologist, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction while questioning the very nature of photography. This piece revisits the history of photography in New York across the 20th and 21st centuries.
