About Nick Hannes

Born in 1974 in Antwerp, Belgium. Lives and works in Ranst, Belgium. Nick Hannes studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, where he is now a teacher. After eight years as a photojournalist, he decided to concentrate on his own documentary projects dealing with socio-political topics. Using a blend of humour, irony, and visual metaphors, he focuses on the problematic relationship between man and the environment. Nick has published three books, one of which Garden of Delight, won the 2017 Magnum Photography Award and the 2018 ZEISS Photography Award. Hannes has exhibited at the FOMU (Antwerp), De Garage (Mechelen), Fotofestiwal (Lodz), Organ Vida (Zagreb), Photolux (Lucca), Centro Andaluz de la Fotografía (Almeria), Triennale der Photographie (Hamburg), ImageSingulières (Sète), Photomed (Beirut), and the Lianzhou Foto Festival.
