About Kíra Krász

Photographic approach of Kíra Krász

Kíra Krász’s work is focused on the interplay between images and their physical properties. She is curious to explore the possibilities of photography by experimenting with, printing techniques, layering, textures, and installation. To this purpose, she photographs in large part on film because it supports an honest approach to my subjects. Portraiture, abstraction, landscapes and nudes have equal importance within my practice to elements such as books, or odd paper. She attempts to determine the genre of a photograph by its context rather than its content. The goal is to reach a state of ‘timelessness’ when it comes to image-making whether it be by modifying chemicals in the darkroom, scratching negatives in the camera-body or using the ink and the printer with incompatible paper.

In her work The Living Home , who was exhibited two times at Hangar, Kíra Krász creates parallels between the architecture of our homes, the structure of trees and the atmosphere that they bring to our lives. She draws our attention to the care and protection we need to give them, just as we do for our own home. Using images, some dating from the 1910s – a time when furniture was made to last – Kíra Krász uses the sleeping child in us by imagining a cabin among the trees. She experiments with the possibilities of photography and works with trimming, collage, layers and textures of paper.

Her exhibition history includes participation in UNSEEN Amsterdam (2022) and Art Market Budapest (2022), among others. Collaborations, such as The Unstable Structure of Balance with George Roast in Budapest and Szekszárd (2022), have further shaped her practice. Earlier projects were showcased internationally, including Photo Brussels Festival, ONCA Gallery, and Crane Kalman Gallery. These experiences continue to inspire her artistic journey, shaping a body of work that navigates themes of transformation, memory, and the passage of time. She was exhibited at Hangar Photo Art Center several times : The World Within (2021), In the Shadow of Trees (2022), Unique - Beyond Photography (2024) and Apparitions (2024).
