About Julia Fullerton-Batten

Born in 1970 in Bremen, Germany. Lives and works in the United Kingdom. After completing her studies, Julia Fullerton-Batten studied photography and assisted professional photographers for five years. Since becoming a professional photographer herself in 2001, she has completed thirteen major projects. At the beginning of her career, the National Portrait Gallery in London asked her to photograph the portraits of sixteen personalities from the UK’s National Health Service, taken from the portraits that are part of the Gallery’s collections. Her works are exhibited all over the world and have won numerous prizes. As a Hasselblad ambassador and lecturer, Julia Fullerton-Batten has published two books. These projects explore themes such as blindness, the ideal figure in modern society, and the sex industry and are guided by hyperrealism and the cinema. She often places their models in surreal settings, using dramatic lighting to create both tension and mystery.
