About Gonçalo Fonseca

Born in 1993 in Portugal. Lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. Gonçalo Fonseca is a documentary photographer who explores the issues of housing and human rights. He has been taking photographs since he was a teenager. Later, he discovered the power of narration. After graduating in journalism from the Catholic University of Portugal in Lisbon (2011-2014), he decided to pursue his passion and to devote his life to photography. In 2015-2016, he studied photojournalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His projects have won him the 2019 Allard Prize for International Integrity and the 2019 Fotoplatjadaro “Educating the Eye” prize. He has been published by some of the world’s leading magazines and newspapers, including TIME, the Washington Post, Der Spiegel, and El País, among others. He regularly speaks about his work at conferences, such as TEDx in Lisbon in 2019.
