About Giovanni Hänninen

Born in 1976 in Helsinki, Finland. Lives and works in Milan, Italy. Giovanni Hänninen is a doctor in aerospace engineering in Milan, where he teaches architectural photography at the Politecnico di Milan. He has been the photographer for the Filarmonica della Scala orchestra since 2009. In 2012, he was presented by photographer Gabriele Basilico at the Casa Testori Foundation’s 20x20 exhibition. In 2015, he took part in the Triennale Off (Milan). The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation invited him to photograph his own artist’s residence in Senegal and his photos have been presented in 2017 at David Zwirner gallery (New York). In 2018, he exhibited a project at the Dakar Biennale and Nuit Blanche (Paris). In 2019, he exhibited in various places, including the Fondazione Studio Marangoni (Florence), MACAAL (Marrakech), Fondazione Sozzani (Milan), AKAA Fair (Paris), and BAM (Palermo). In the same year, he developed a photographic campaign for the Complesso Museale della Pilotta for the city of Parma, during its tenure as the European Capital of Culture (2020).
